The holidays are right around the corner, and for many, that fills them with joy and relaxation. For many more, however, the idea of the holidays fills them with stress, dread, or other negative feelings. Research showed that 64% of people with mental illness report holiday season makes their conditions worse.

Financial obligations, feeling over-committed, difficult family situations, scheduling conflicts, and more can lead to stress and anxiety. For some, the holiday seasons are a painful reminder of loved ones with whom they cannot be. During this time, people need to plan ahead so they can avoid stress. For drivers, it is the busiest time of the year, and they are working hard to ensure presents are delivered on time. Added stress, pressure, long hours, and countless miles go along with the holiday season and being on the road, away from family. This causes loneliness which can lead to depression.

We know this is a very busy time of year for Carriers and Drivers. Drivers are working hard making deliveries so America can have supplies for the holidays – here are some tips to ensure your drivers have the necessary wellness tools and feel appreciated working while others are at home with their families during the holiday seasons.

Tips to Support Drivers During the Holidays

  1. Provide your drivers with helpful healthy nutritional tips on how to stock their in-cab fridges
  2. If you have an EAP in place, ensure your drivers know about it and how to use it during these stressful times away from home.
  3. If you don’t have an effective EAP program in place – reach out to Fit to Pass by Espyr and learn about TalkNow®
  4. Stock your driver break areas at your terminals with fresh fruit, water, and healthy nuts – please, NO high-sugar comfort treats.
  5. Reach out to your contract fuel stops for any health-minded coupons your drivers can use as a reward for working during the holidays
  6. If you are a Pet-Friendly Carrier – supply your drivers pet companions with healthy treats too.
